Christmas Extravaganza and Flotilla

Kick off the joyous holiday season with a wonderful annual event in Historic Downtown Edenton to include Tree Lighting and Flotilla - 5:30 pm and for the first- time, an Artificial Ice Skating Rink on Friday, from 4-9 pm and Saturday, December 5th 10 am - 2 pm. This event is sponsored by Destination Downtown Edenton.

Brunch With An Author

Troy Kickler, researcher and author of “The King’s Trouble Makers: Edenton’s Role in Creating a Nation and State” will be joined by the book’s editors Jerry Climer and Bob Quinn for this year’s finale of the Friends of the Shepard-Pruden Memorial Library’s North Carolina Series. The book explores an often-overlooked history of northeastern NC and the founding of America. The panel will discuss and answer questions concerning the writing process to include the art of research, designing the flow, drafting, editing, and proofing. A small brunch will begin at 10:30 and the panel will be held from 11:00 – noon in the library’s 2nd floor meeting room in Edenton. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Caroling in the 1767 Courthouse

Get in the festive spirit by joining us for an evening of community caroling and hear the traditional sounds of Christmas as they echo off the walls of the 1767 Chowan County Courthouse, a National Historic Landmark, and one of the most important Colonial buildings still standing in the state. Light holiday refreshments will be served.

Start a Family Tradition: The Chowan Arts Council's Reading of the Polar Express will begin at 5 pm on Friday and there will be books and a bell available for purchase.

Holiday Tours of Historic Edenton

Tuesdays through Saturdays in December: Enjoy festive holiday tours of Historic Edenton and learn about traditions and Christmases pasts. Variety of tour options available Tuesday – Saturday allow you to pick and choose the holiday experience that works best for you. Visit the 1886 Roanoke River Lighthouse along the waterfront of Edenton Bay and experience the keeper’s solemn Christmas; tour the 1800 James Iredell and 1758 Cupola Houses along with the historic 1767 Chowan County Courthouse. Learn how families spent the holidays in colonial and early 19th century Edenton. Admissions: $3.50 per house or $10.00 for a complete tour.
