Edenton's Cotton Mill Village

One of the best aspects of visiting Edenton is that there is always something new for you to experience or explore!

From our tried and true historical tours, trolley tours, and Liber-Tea boat tours to shopping and dining on Broad Street, a visit to Edenton can be as jam-packed or as relaxing as you desire. 

But if you’re looking for a new or different Edenton experience, let me suggest a self-guided tour of Edenton’s Cotton Mill Village. 

The entire village, comprising over 70 buildings, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and covers approximately five square blocks centered around an open field in front of the original Cotton Mill. 

While the Cotton Mill Village is highlighted on Edenton’s Trolley Tour, the best way to explore this historic district is on foot.

And, the best place to start is at The Edenton Cotton Mill Museum of History, located on Elliott Street in the original Cotton Mill Executive Office building.

This building is over 100 years old and houses exhibits and artifacts that explain the history and preservation of this unique village. 

The museum is only open on weekends, but even if you’re not able to visit on a weekend, the Cotton Mill Village is a beautiful place to explore.  

As you walk down shady sidewalks, you’ll see the unique architecture of Mill Village homes which have been lovingly restored and uniquely decorated. 

Porch swings, flower gardens, and colorful decor highlight the pride and care that current Mill Village residents have for their historic homes. 

Several residents are descendants whose families lived in the village and worked at the Cotton Mill almost a century ago. 

The original mill, directly across the street from the museum, has been renovated into luxury condominiums that showcase preserved oversized windows, rustic brick walls, and large interior lofts.

The Cotton Mill Village is situated next door to Queen Anne Creek and is within walking distance of Queen Anne Park. It’s about three blocks to Edenton’s downtown main street. 

So, if you’re staying in one of Edenton’s airbnb rentals or B&B’s, touring the Cotton Mill Village is easily accessible and a wonderful option we hope you’ll explore!
