Did you know that Edenton is a North Carolina Main Street Community designated by the NC Department of Commerce and Main Street & Rural Planning Center? Also, Forbes magazine selected it as one of America’s prettiest towns. In the heart of town, Broad Street is Edenton’s version of Main Street USA. Three blocks of historic, 19th-century buildings harbor nearly forty downtown shops and restaurants all within walking distance to the beautiful waterfront overlooking Edenton Bay.
Fabulous finds from regionally created arts and crafts to gifts, clothing and vintage goods. Stroll back in time in one of our locally owned hardware stores or salvage a one-of-kind keepsake from an antiques shop. Edenton’s shopping district features a variety of boutique shops, clothing and shoe stores, department stores, independent bookstores, D-I-Y/home project suppliers and more. Some of the shops can’t be defined by a single category. Where else can you discover exquisite embellishments, extraordinary finds, premium wines, craft beers and a secret courtyard patio all under one roof?
There are plenty of other special places to shop while you’re visiting Edenton. Shop for seasonal produce and fresh seafood at Edenton Farmers Market, open every Saturday year-round, regional seafood and coastal garden supplies just a few farm miles away from downtown.
Feeling nostalgic? Hop in the car and take the family to a roadside fruit stand, or a country hardware store in the middle of nowhere! Not quite but pretty close. Let’s just say it’s off the beaten path but travelers always come back telling us locals that W.E. Nixon Welding & Hardware was well worth the trip! One section of the original building was a former mule stable that dates back to the 1920’s. Part welding supply and part general store, this rural necessity has it all – from replacement tractor parts and electric fish scalers to homemade muffins and Miracle-Gro.
Pardon the ten or so traffic lights around town but there’s really no reason to rush around Edenton. Small town shopping frequently translates to easy, walkable and affordable. We boast a number of familiar, name brand and quality retailers including drug stores, variety stores and grocers. Local matters in our town and these corporate-owned stores provide locals with jobs, event sponsorships and so much other community support. It’s all good along the Albemarle Sound, and we’re sure you’ll have a unique and fun shopping experience during your stay in Edenton.
