Another Edenton Steamers regular season is sadly coming to a close at the end of this month.
Currently, second in their division with a record of 24-7, it’s been another great season. And, to top it off, two former steamers were drafted in the 2025 MLB draft, Tanner Thach (’22 team) and Cannon Pickell (’21 team), too!
It’s easy to see why the Edenton Steamers have been such an institution for so many years, an essential part of every Edenton summer.
Under new general manager Lauren Baker, the Steamers have surged ahead, adopting a new alternate persona, the “Rocky Hock Gnats,” and creating another generation of baseball fans in Edenton. And, they’ve been pesky alright.
On the offensive side, Oliver Zohn has been a particular standout, leading the team in average (.512), on base percentage (.631), hits (42), and RBIs (31).
Luke Alford leads the team with 8 home runs, but Carver Pleasant is close behind him with 7.
Pitching has been dominant, too. Erik Rosas has the most innings pitched at 23 with the most wins at 5. Big John Horton leads the team in Strikeouts (34) and saves (3).
As a team, they’ve scored 120 MORE runs than they’ve allowed, and have a 20-2 record at Historic Hicks Field.
As a collegiate summer ball league, Edenton hosts families from Georgia to Wisconsin in their homes for this season, and as you can see, this year’s group has been special.
It’s no wonder that people from Edenton, Chowan County, and beyond come to town to cheer on their favorite players, experience Historic Hicks Field, and enjoy delicious ballpark hot dogs, freshly made donuts, and other delicacies. A great team and great food are always a winning combination.
But, as we pass the halfway point of July, the regular season is coming to an end, with the steamers likely heading to the playoffs.
So, if you’ve not yet experienced a Steamers game, walked Historic Hicks Field, or given Sam (or Pam) a high five, you need to come out.
Friendly fans’ll greet you, you can watch kids playing wild games between innings, and make wonderful memories. It’s great for the whole family.
Go Steamers!
