#1 309 Bistro & Spirits

An Edenton staple for lunch and dinner, 309 Bistro is a tried-and-true favorite!

With an array of options, including fresh seafood, steaks, and pasta dishes, you’ll enjoy the cozy atmosphere and even dining al fresco. The bar offers a friendly atmosphere with handmade cocktails, the perfect place to chat with the locals.  (closed 3/17/26)

#2 Broad Street Diner

In the mood for a cozy, welcoming diner experience? This newest downtown restaurant has quickly become a local favorite, offering breakfast and lunch options six days a week (closed on Wednesdays).

On Sundays, from 8:00 – 2:00, check out their special brunch menu.

#3 Downtown Roots

Featured on PBS’s North Carolina Weekend Series with Deborah Holt Noel, Downtown Roots is just what you’d expect, wholesome Southern lunch options made with locally sourced products.

Enjoy soups, salads, and sandwiches in an atmosphere where you’ll feel right at home!

#4 Edenton Coffee House & Bakery

An Edenton institution, this is where the locals meet in the morning for a cup of joe and a fresh pastry or breakfast sandwich, but Edenton Coffee House & Bakery also offers lunch options.

Grab a crafted specialty coffee, a warm muffin or pastry, and a comfy seat outside to people watch and experience Edenton’s downtown life. 

#5 Governor’s Pub

Known as “Edenton’s living room,” Governor’s Pub is a friendly neighborhood restaurant where you can enjoy pizza, wings, burgers, and other traditional pub fare.

The family-friendly restaurant also offers a sports bar where you can mix with the locals and catch your favorite teams on the big-screens. 

#6 The Herringbone on the Waterfront

Originally a 19th-century icehouse from the days of a thriving Herring fishing industry, Edenton’s premier waterfront dining destination brings Southern heritage, food culture, and architecture together for an incredible dining experience.

The menu features modern American cuisine and fresh interpretations of classic Southern dishes using seasonal ingredients indigenous to the coastal region. The Herringbone’s outdoor dining boasts unparalleled views of sunsets over Edenton Bay. 

#7 Ralph’s NY Italian Pizza

After working for over 30 years in New York City, Ralph followed his passion for food and opened an authentic NY pizzeria upon moving to Edenton.

If you’re craving a slice of NY pizza, fresh Italian pasta, or a sweet cannoli, Ralph’s is where you’ll find exactly what you want. Offering call-ahead, grab-and-go, and dine-in options, Ralph’s is open Wednesdays through Sundays. 

#8 Waterman’s Grill

Eating at Waterman’s Grill is an Edenton tradition.

Located in the historic old Tynch & Toppin Fish Market building, Waterman’s offers all of the traditional seafood options you’d expect to find in a waterfront town. You’ll experience a true Southern welcome and savor some of the best seafood at this dinner-only restaurant. 

In addition to these 8 great spots to eat in Downtown Edenton, you’ll find other stops along the way to get a drink, an afternoon snack, or a freshly baked treat. 

Check out The Corner Baking Co. or The Patisserie at Edenton Bay for delicious Southern desserts and baked goods.
