Experience Southern Hospitality during Edenton’s Pilgrimage Tour of Historic Private Homes & Sites

From its scenic waterfront to its well-preserved historic homes, Edenton is a charming waterfront town worth exploring for anyone with an interest in architecture, history, or simply a love for natural beauty.

One of the best ways to experience Edenton’s rich history and Southern hospitality is through the 2025 Pilgrimage Tour of Historic Private Homes & Sites.

This biennial event allows visitors to step back in time and tour some of the town’s most beautiful, well-preserved homes and exquisite spring gardens, all while learning about their unique stories and architectural details.

Hosted by the Edenton Woman’s Club, this year’s Pilgrimage will be held on April 11th and 12th, so you’ll need to secure your tickets now. Tickets are valid for both tour days and can be picked up when you get to town.

During this two-day extravaganza, you will be treated to numerous special events, docents in colonial attire, and lunch in the historic ballroom of Edenton’s 1767 Chowan County Courthouse

In addition, you’ll get exclusive access to some of Edenton’s most prestigious properties during a self-guided walking tour, including nineteen historic private properties and seven historic sites.

The Pilgrimage Tour typically features a variety of homes, ranging from grand colonial-style mansions to charming cottages, each offering a glimpse into Edenton’s past.

Back by popular demand is the grand Wessington, a magnificent antebellum residence built in 1850. This three-story home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a local landmark.

Visitors can expect to see beautifully landscaped gardens, period-appropriate furnishings, and architectural details that reflect the town’s historic significance.

While you meander through each home, docents dressed in historical attire will explain the unique history and architecture of the dwelling, often highlighting the role the home has played in Edenton’s history.

Beyond the windows and doors, you will glimpse well-manicured lawns, blossoming gardens, and bubbling fountains, which you are welcome to explore and enjoy at your leisure.

During April, cherry blossoms, daffodils, tulips, buttercups, roses, and jonquils are just some of the colorful blooms you’ll find in these exquisitely manicured gardens.

To fully immerse yourself in Edenton’s springtime charm, consider booking a room at one of our town’s premier Bed and Breakfast properties.

You will be pampered and enjoy close proximity to many of the homes, gardens, and public buildings open during the Pilgrimage Tour.

But don’t wait to book your accommodations as these properties fill up quickly!

The Pilgrimage Tour is not only a great opportunity to learn about Edenton’s history, but also to support the preservation efforts of the town’s historic homes and buildings.

Whether you’re a history buff, a lover of architecture, or simply looking for a fun and unique weekend getaway, Edenton’s 2025 Pilgrimage Tour of Historic Private Homes & Sites is not to be missed!

We hope you’ll join us this year for a memorable experience that will transport you back in time and leave you with a deep appreciation for this beautiful town and its rich heritage, where you’ll experience Southern hospitality at its best.
