Five Things to Add to Your Summer Trip to Edenton

A couple of weeks ago, we talked about how Edenton’s itineraries can help you plan your trip.

This is the next step.

Once you’ve got a general plan, the real question becomes what you actually want to build your time around. Summer in Edenton isn’t about packing your schedule. It’s about choosing a few things that make the trip feel complete.

If you’re coming this time of year, these are five things worth adding.

Catch an Edenton Steamers Game

If you’re here on a summer evening and the Steamers are in town, it’s worth going.

The ballpark itself is on the National Register of Historic Places, and it’s a lot of fun to visit. It’s wooden grandstands are close to the action, and easy to settle into.

Games are affordable, the food is good and local, and kids tend to love schmoozing with Sam and Pam the Clam (the mascots). You’ll see people moving around, talking, watching a few innings, then getting back up again.

It’s a lot of fun.

Take a Ride on the Liber-Tea

If you want to understand Edenton, this is one of the best ways to do it.

The Liber-Tea tour gives you a look at the town’s maritime history, but what makes it stand out is how it’s told. Captain Mark has been doing this for a long time, and it shows. He entertains the whole family, kids and adults alike, with fascinating stories that touch on pirates, governors, and more, all as you ride around Edenton Bay on an all-electric boat.

You’ll leave with a much better sense of where you are and why the place feels the way it does.

Take the Edenton Trolley Tour

The Edenton Trolley Tour moves through the Downtown Historic District and out toward the Edenton Cotton Mill Village, so you’re seeing more than just one part of town.

Along the way, you get a sense of what Edenton was like when it served as North Carolina’s colonial capital, along with the people who lived here and helped shape it including signers of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, as well as one of the first justices of the U.S. Supreme Court.

It’s a lot of history, but it never feels overwhelming. It just helps you understand the place a little better.

Spend a Morning on the Golf Course

Golf fits naturally into a summer trip here, especially in the morning before the day heats up.

Mulberry Hill on the easier side. It’s closeer to town, playable, and a number of holes wind along the Albemarle Sound and a huge pond. It’s the kind of round where you can enjoy it without feeling like you’re grinding through it.

Occano is a different experience. It’s longer and more demanding, with a layout that asks a little more from you.

Either way, it’s a good way to start the day at a slower pace.

Go to a Sounds of Summer Concert

If your trip lines up with one of these concerts, it’s worth planning around.

They’re held in downtown Edenton, with the water backdrop of the Albemarle Sound. People bring blankets or lawn chairs, settle in, and stay for a while.

The music is great. Not just background music, but acts that people actually come to hear.

It’s one of those things that seem simple but end up being highlights.

How to Fit It All In

You don’t need to do all five of these, and you probably won’t have time to.

Pick a couple that fit the kind of trip you want, then build your days around them.

Maybe that’s a morning on the golf course, followed by a slower afternoon, then a Steamers game that night. Or a Liber-Tea tour during the day and a concert by the water in the evening.

The point isn’t to check everything off. It’s to give your trip a few anchor moments and let the rest fall into place.

You can always come back through; many people do.

These are the kinds of experiences that round it out.

Summer in Edenton doesn’t ask for much planning. Just a few good decisions, a little time, and the willingness to dive in once you’re here.

That’s usually enough.
