Why We Are Thankful to Live in Edenton
Happy Thanksgiving! During this time of year in Edenton, the leaves are beautiful, the weather has cooled, and the sun is still shining.
Shops are gearing up for the holiday season, and Edenton is trimmed in festive lights and decorations. It’s the perfect time of year to visit.
As we reflect on all the blessings we enjoy, we are reminded once again of why we are thankful to live in Edenton.
One of the most obvious reasons is the beautiful scenery that surrounds Edenton. The natural beauty is stunning at any time of the year, but fall is one of our favorite times to enjoy the scenery and golden sunsets.
Residents and visitors marvel at the beauty of the colorful leaves and watch as geese land on the serene water. We are thankful for the peace and joy that living in such a beautiful place offers.
We are also grateful that our town is very family oriented. From children romping in the leaves on the courthouse green to families enjoying a stroll down Broad Street, Edenton offers many opportunities for family fun.
Kids enjoy multiple events, like the Harry Potter Extravaganza at the local library and Trick-or-Treating down Broad Street, while parents enjoy date nights at downtown restaurants and movies at the Taylor Theater.
Likewise, we are thankful for the abundance of activities for those of us who live here and for visitors. Edenton offers something for everyone.
Year-round, there are numerous special events to enjoy, like Boogie on Broad and Shrimp by the Bay.
But, particularly during this holiday season, you’ll enjoy countless celebrations, such as our annual Turkey Trot, the Christmas Flotilla Boat Parade, and the Christmas Candlelight Tour. You’ll never run out of fun things to do in Edenton!
On the other hand, Edenton’s slower pace of life is a blessing that we are very thankful for every day.
If you used to live in a metropolitan area, you probably spent a lot of time sitting in gridlocked traffic. Or maybe constant sirens punctuated your neighborhood day and night.
Edenton’s not like that. You can enjoy sitting on your front porch, drinking coffee, and listening to nature.
Edenton is peaceful and provides breathing room, even when your schedule gets a bit hectic. We are thankful to live in a place that reminds us to slow down and enjoy life.
We are also grateful to live in a place that values both its rich history and its promising future.
As the former capital of North Carolina and the setting for the first political action by women in the colonies, Edenton has played a significant historical role in American history.
Edenton’s citizens and organizations value the preservation and dissemination of its history. You can find a self-guided walking tour that highlights key moments, people, and places that have played an historic role in Edenton.
The Penelope Barker House and Historic Edenton State Historic Site offer many tours, both by land and by water, so all of us can learn more about Edenton’s significant history.
Of special interest this year is our kick-off to the 250th Anniversary of the Edenton Tea Party!
At the same time, there are many dedicated citizens and organizations who value progress and development. They are committed to creating positive change and opportunities for Edenton’s future.
Thinking about all of the dedicated people who preserve and create the best in Edenton reminds us of one final reason that we are thankful to live here. Edenton is a caring community.
The people who live here care about the town and about each other. People donate and volunteer their time and resources through many organizations in order to meet the needs of the community.
We are thankful for the number of volunteers in Edenton and the number of hours they give to create a safe, beautiful, caring town.
For these reasons, and many more, we are thankful to live in Edenton.
